About DIY Project Estimator
Simple answers for real projects.
Every home project starts with the same question, "How much do I need to buy?" Buy too little and you're making a second trip to the store in the middle of your job. Buy too much and you're stuck with leftover bags, sheets or boxes you paid for and can't use. DIY Project Estimator answers that question in seconds.
Enter your measurements and each calculator will tell you how much to buy in the units stores actually sell: bags of concrete, cubic yards of mulch, sheets of drywall, boxes of tile. Where it helps, we also estimate the cost so you can budget before you shop.
What makes our calculators different
- Answers in buying units. Not just cubic feet, but how many bags or sheets to put in your cart.
- Waste included. We add a sensible extra amount for cuts, spills and settling, and show you how much.
- Built for your phone or computer. Use them in store or in the backyard with tape measure in hand.
- Free, with no sign-up. Just open a calculator and use it.
How we calculate
Our calculators use standard volume and area formulas and common product sizes sold at major US home improvement stores. Each calculator page explains its math so you can check it yourself.
Results are estimates for planning. Product sizes, coverage and local conditions vary, so always confirm quantities with your supplier and follow your local building codes.
